Media, Stakeholder & Influencer Engagement

As a settler-run agency, we value every opportunity to work on projects that focus on reconciliation through action.

We approach each project with an openness to listen and learn, and a chance to partner with talented Indigenous communicators, facilitators, and creatives, to develop work that is culturally sensitive and well informed.

Alongside long-time client, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Canada, we have been entrusted to help share important stories about how Indigenous Peoples’ rights are upheld in forest management decisions affecting traditional territories, and have also developed materials to communicate the benefits FSC certification can bring to Indigenous communities.

Beyond The Forest

Upholding Indigenous Peoples’ rights in forestry has impacts that extend far Beyond The Forest

We shared a powerful story rooted in collaboration and mutual respect between Indigenous-led social enterprise Wahkohtowin Development and GreenFirst Forest Products in Chapleau, northern Ontario.

Together with Indigenous-led filmmakers, Wolf Eye Productions, and Indigenous educator and social media influencer, Zhaawnong Webb, we visited local birch forests, a Turtle Lodge at Chapleau Cree First Nation, Pow Wow grounds at Brunswick House First Nation, the site of a former residential school, the Wahkohtowin Innovation Center and the local sawmill.

During five interviews, we learned about commitments to meaningful engagement that resulted in positive economic and social impacts for local communities, including youth empowerment programs or Guardian programs, cultural revitalization efforts, and sustainable housing solutions.

We produced a short film, that has been viewed over 2000 times (in English and French), and a written piece that was shared on FSC Canada’s website, and amplified within industry publications, partner platforms, and throughout FSC’s global network.

To generate further attention Zhaawnong Webb created two short and informative videos and promoted this story with his 1M+ followers on TikTok and Instagram.

A tailored social media advertising campaign across all of FSC Canada’s social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter was also developed to maximize exposure.

Sharing Key Benefits of FSC Certification

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Canada wanted to refine and shape how to effectively communicate the key benefits of FSC certification for an Indigenous audience.

Following the fundamental rule of “nothing about us, without us”, our team, alongside the wonderful Indigenous communicator, founder and facilitator, Ben Borne, led a series of Sharing Circles with members of FSC Canada’s Indigenous Chamber.

During these sessions, we presented and discussed key benefits, narrowing in on which ones resonated most strongly and how best to position them.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Allison on a couple of projects. She brings a genuine passion for her work that’s both energizing and impactful, and her strategic approach to communications is rooted in real care for people and the planet. Allison is a joy to collaborate with—smart, grounded, and driven by purpose. 10/10 would work with her again!”

Benefits in Action.

We worked with the FSC-certified Burns Lake Community Forest, GreenFirst Forest Products, and Wahkohtowin to develop case studies illustrating how the FSC standard was used to uphold the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

The Sharing Circle learnings and case studies were transformed into a comprehensive booklet and presentation brought to life with the beautiful artistry and illustrations of Indigenous artist and designer, Leticia Spence.
